6 Tips to Market Your E-Mail Newsletter

Most people are busy, and Jason Hartman believes that time is money. This means in order for people to sign up for a newsletter, you not only have to offer something valuable, but you have to use marketing techniques to make it seem valuable to them and persuade them to subscribe. Here are six tips to market your e-mail newsletter.

1. Call to Action

The call to action is an extremely important marketing tactic. If you want the audience to do something, chances are they aren’t going to do it without a call to action to drive them. It’s surprising how responsive the audience is once they’re asked to do something. Just avoid any kind of blatant sales technique. In order for the audience to be responsive, they have to receive something from you as well.

2. Target a Niche

No matter what kind of content you run, it’s important to choose a niche. Even if you run a business publishing content for promotional purposes, it’s important to target a specific group of people to get the message across. This can also help when deciding what content to include in the newsletter, because it can’t all be promotional.

3. Address Audience Segments

Although you should already be targeting a niche, sometimes it can be beneficial for a newsletter to occasionally target specific groups of people within the niche. Because you’re targeting a niche, audience members will have things in common, but not every person is the same. By occasionally addressing different segments of the audience, you can personally engage different people at a time.

4. Have a Goal

E-mail has been proven to be an effective marketing tool, however, it can become useless without any sort of marketing goal. So, think of what you want for your business, blog, podcast, or content. Create a plan with the newsletter to help you achieve it.

5. Make it About the Reader

While newsletters are an effective marketing tool, they’re nearly useless if they aren’t about the reader. The majority of readers aren’t interested and won’t subscribe if the content doesn’t benefit in some way. It needs to be relevant and interesting, without being overrun with sales material.

6. How’s the Design?

The design of your newsletter should be simple and clean, without obtrusive graphics or blatant advertisements. A good way to determine how the reader sees the newsletter is by looking at it without the graphics. Why is this? Most e-mail platforms don’t even recognize graphics. What the newsletter looks like without the graphics is exactly how the audience members are going to see it.
