Choosing a Niche Market for Your Podcast

Many aren’t aware of what a niche actually is. However, without a niche your podcast could fail. Keep reading to learn how to choose a niche.

What is a Niche Market?

Jason Hartman’s basic definition of a niche market is a narrowly focused market targeting a specific audience. The general goal is to target a need or service not currently being addressed. Most niches will have a defined group of potential followers.

Why Choose a Niche?

Depending on the niche, you can benefit from little competition. A niche can stop you from wasting time, money, or energy attempting to appeal to every single person online. With the right niche, it’s possible to appeal to a segment of loyal listeners who will want to tune into your podcast on a regular basis. You’ll be able to communicate a message to the right people while creating a brand.

Choosing a Niche Market

Choosing a niche is one of the most difficult parts of starting a podcast or a blog. A successful niche will give something to the audience, whether it be a product, information, or both. Whatever is offered to the audience should solve a problem or satisfy a need. While it can be beneficial to make a completely original niche, competition could indicate a sufficiently large audience. If you choose a niche with competition, it’s important to address it in a unique and interesting way. Create something that steps above the competition. Base your niche upon:

  • Expertise and knowledge.
  • Passion and interest.
  • Uniqueness and topic availability.

Having all the necessary knowledge about a chosen niche will help topics come easier, and make it simpler to speak or write about a topic. Any extra information can be easily accessed with the use of internet resources. You must also be passionate about your niche, or at least have an interest in it. It takes work to launch a successful podcast, along with plenty of love and dedication. If you’re passionate, listeners and followers will sense it.

Also consider how easy it is to come up with topics in a niche. If you can’t come up with a list of ten topics off the top of your head, it’s probably not the right niche for your podcast.
