Speak Well – Get Chicks

Speaking of WealthOr get dudes, as the case may be. We didn’t intend our article title to be biased against the ladies, transgendered, homosexual, or space aliens. Let’s not wander too far afield here – the point is that speaking is an almost guaranteed to increase your sex appeal, no matter how homely you might be from birth. The bad news is we’re not all pretty or handsome. The good news is that it doesn’t really matter. There are other attributes like intelligence, humor, and, yes, the gift of the gab.

If you haven’t been exposed to the concept yet, the motivation behind every single act every taken by a human being, and even looking at the broader aspect of historical events, happens for a one or more of the following four reasons.

1. money
2. sex
3. power
4. religion

Ultimately we human beings are uncomplicated animals with simple motivations. We can say we don’t fully understand what drives us and pretend like we’re a magical, complex collection of cells but that’s a load of crap. Anything and everything with a human motivation behind it was inspired by money, sex, power, religion. To be sure, there are other, sometimes altruistic, motives behind behavior but, when it comes to the Big Picture, focus on the Big Four if you want to find the truth.

So, why is it you want to become a successful public speaker? Confidence, self-esteem, sharing your knowledge? Working your way up Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs? Sorry, wrong, wrong, wrong, and wrong. Actually, now that we think about it, we can toss out #3 and #4 and get to the meat of true motivation. Is it money or sex? Either is a perfectly legitimate reason to become a famous speaker. Be honest with yourself and you’re likely to be happier in the long run.

For a discussion of the topic from a guy who like to obfuscate the issue and avoid reality, click HERE for an article called Public Speaking for Profit, Pleasure, and Personal Growth, if you can stop laughing long enough to finish it that is. Chock full of earnest proclamations like “people start looking at you in a more positive way” and “you begin to explore and actualize your own potential,” author Mike Moore forgets to include the real reason anyone gets into speaking.

It’s all about the chicks, my friend.
